PROFILINK.908: Modicon I/O Gateway

PROFILINK.908 is a high-speed solution for migrating Modicon Quantum and Series 800 I/O to any PLC or control system supporting Profibus. PROFILINK.908 converts the high-speed (1.54Mbps) Modicon S908 remote I/O packets to 12Mbps Profibus DP.  Therefore, the Profilink.908 requires a Profibus DP enabled control system or PLC to transmit the Modicon I/O data to the Controller.

Control Systems and Controllers with PROFIBUS DP Support.

The manufacturers of most new Control Systems and large PLC’s support Profibus DP directly.  Manufacturers in this category include ABB, Emerson (Fisher-Rosemount), Foxboro, Siemens (including Moore) and Yokogawa.  Honeywell and GE have approved and may be directly supporting third party modules.

For manufacturers not directly supporting Profibus, third party modules are available.  Systems included in this category include Allen-Bradley, GE, Honeywell and Reliance.  Process Computer Technology, Inc offers Systems Integration services for Allen Bradley and GE PLC's.

A special subcategory of third party support is Profibus modules for various PC busses including ISA, PCI, Compact PCI, PC/104 and PCMCIA.

Profibus DP Master Adapter Modules.

Most contemporary control systems include integral support Profibus DP. The PROFILINK.908 can interface with any Profibus DP master that adheres to the specification. The following control systems require third party modules to act as Profibus DP masters.
